Talk is cheap, but it can be a great advertising tool for your business.

Anyone who has started a small business on a shoe string budget will tell you that "word of mouth" is the best form of advertisement there is, and it's free. But what people say about your business can work for you or against you. It is very important that give good customer service so your business will be recommended to others.

Word of mouth can be the catalyst between success or failure. The more word of mouth, the more exposure your business gets. The more exposure it gets, the more money you make. If someone likes the way your business provide products and services, they are going to tell others. It doesn't matter whether it's good or bad, the word is going to get out.

As a business owner, whether the business is large or small, you want all the positive vibes you can get from your customers. Once someone has a good experience with you, they will refer other people as soon as they can and don't have second thoughts about bragging about what a good job you do or about the great products and services you sell. It's human nature.

Today, in the new world of text messaging, email, twitter, facebook, LinkedIn, Google +, and other social media networks, communication is instant. You can actually encourage people to spread the word about your business. The great thing about word of mouth through social media is that there are so many people linked to each other by way of social clubs, families, friends, and business associations.

With today's technology, you can actually engage in conversations or hold internet forums with past customers, potential customers and clients, and just about anyone who has access to the internet or a modern cell phone.

If you develop a new product or come up with a new idea, the news can literally reach tens of millions of people almost instantly. Things are completely different than they were just a few years ago.

Nowadays, conversations take place around the world in a matter of seconds. Word of mouth isn't just talking with your mouth. It's done more today on the keypad with fingertips and all that is needed is a computer, laptop, a cell phone, or a notebook computer. Conversations are short, sweet, and simple.

Social Media outlets are making it easier for people to communicate and stay in touch with each other. You can set up a Facebook page and ask people to like it. Similar things can be done with Google + and other forums. You can ask people to follow you, join your network, subscribe to your online newsletter, offer online workshops, and conduct webinars.

You can do many things to entice people to start talking about your business. Word of mouth is cheap but it's the best form of advertising there is.
