Scholarships For Asian Americans

There are many scholarships and grants available to Asian American Students to help pay for college and other higher education degrees. Below is a partial list of scholarships and grants that are given by businesses, the government, private citizens, schools, churches, and other organizations.

Asian Pacific Islanders American Scholarship Fund:
APIASF Scholarship Programs
Amount of award: $2500--$5000
Intended use: Student must be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at one of the following institutions:

City College of San Francisco

Coastline Community College

De Anza College

Guam Community College

Richland College

South Seattle Community College

University of Hawaii at Hilo

University of Illinois at Chicago

University of Massachusetts Boston

Requirements: Must be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by the U.S. Census Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply. Be enrolling in a U.S. accredited college or university in the Fall of 2014. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) or have earned a GED. Must apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 15 Submit one letter of recommendation online.

OCA-AXA Achievement Scholarships
Type of Award: Scholarship
Intended use: For freshman study
Eligibility: Applicant must be Asian American or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Application requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA.
Basis For Selection: Applicant must demonstrate high academic achievement.

OCA/UPS Foundation Gold Mountain College Scholarship
Type of Award: Scholarship.
Intended use: For full-time freshman study in the United States.
Eligibility: Applicant must be Asian American or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Asian American Journalist Association
Portland Chapter AAJA Scholarship

Amount of award: $2000
Intended use for graduating high school student, undergraduate, or graduate student enrolled full time in an accredited college or university. Student must attend school in Oregon or the Vancouver, Washington area.
Eligibility Requirements: Commitment to the field of journalism, journalistic ability, financial need, and sensitivity to Asian American issues. AAJA National Office

Endowment for South Asian Students of Indian Descent
Type of award:  $2000 scholarship
Intended use is for a qualified medical student
Eligibility:  Must be resident of Pennsylvania for at least 12 months before registering as a medical student.
Applicant must be a South Asian Indian or a descendant of a South Asian Indian immigrant to the United States.  Proof of citizenship and birth descent may be required.
Applicant must have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

NABA National Scholarship Program
Type of Award: Scholarship.
Intended use: For full-time undergraduate or master's study at 4-year or graduate institution.
Eligibility: Applicant must be Asian American, Alaskan native, African American, Mexican American, Hispanic America, Puerto Rican, or American Indian.
Application requirements: Essay, Transcripts, Resume. Check website for other requirements.
Additional information: Major/career interest in accounting; business or finance/banking. Applicant must demonstrate depth of character, leadership and service orientation.
Amount of award: $1,000-$10,000

Asian Women In Business Scholarships
Type of Award: Scholarship
Amount of Award: $2500
Intended use: For students enrolled full-time in an accredited 4-year undergraduate institution in the US, at the time of application and award.
Eligibility Requirements: Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA at time of application and submit most recent college transcripts. Applicant must be a business owner for at least 1 year.
Additional Information: For Asian female students who have demonstrated scholarship, leadership, community service and/or entrepreneurship. Encourages and promotes exceptional Asian female students who have demonstrated scholarship, leadership, community service and/ or entrepreneurship.Must be a citizen or a permanent resident of the United States.
Application Deadline: The deadline for submission is September 15, 2013. Completed applications must be postmarked with the required attachments on or before September 15, 2013. Late applications will not be considered. Recommendation letters may be sent separately but must be received on or before the deadline. Note: No faxed applications will be accepted.

American Meteorological Society/Industry Minority Scholarship
Type of Award: Scholarship
Intended use: For full-time freshman study at accredited 4-year institution.
Eligibility: Applicant must be Asian American, Alaska native, African American, Mexican American, Hispanic American, Puerto Rican or American Indian. Applicant must be high school senior. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Application requirements: Recommendations, Transcript, SAT scores.

Fisher Broadcasting Company Scholarship for Minorities
Type of award: Scholarship
Intended Use: For full-time sophomore, junior, or senior study at accredited 2-year or 4-year institution in United States
Eligibility: Applicant must be Asian American, African American, Alaska native, Mexican American, Hispanic American, American Indian, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Basis for selection: Major/career interest in engineering with high academic achievement.
Application requirements: Essay, Recommendations, transcript, proof of eligibility. Applicant must provide estimated expense/income worksheet.
Additional information: Applicant must have career interest in broadcast communications. Amount of award varies each year. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. For school use in Washington, California, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, or for students with permanent addresses in those states who attend school out of state.
