Advertising Your Business

Question: What is advertising and why is advertising so important to businesses?

Answer: Advertising is the act of giving the public notice of a service or a product, usually for sale. Advertising is used, in long and short term business plans, to increase visibility when marketing a product or service.

Question: How can I advertise my business?

Answer: There are numerous ways to effectively advertise your business including word of mouth, flyers, print media, electronic media, billboards, and other forms of advertising.

Question: What should I do to make sure my business is advertised?.

Answer: One of the first things to do is create an advertising budget. Even though there are ways to advertise without spending a lot of money, an effective advertising budget is a must if the growth of your business depends on the number of people you contact.

This can require you to spend a lot of your profits on advertising but in return, it can make your business one of the most well known in your market area.

Question: What is the best form of advertisement?

Answer: The best form of advertisement for any business is word of mouth. Word of mouth means that someone tells a friend, relative, or an acquaintance about your product or service and then that person tells someone and so on.

Although word of mouth is generally the best form of advertisement your business can get, if your company's products or services are not of the best quality or are not as good as your competitors, word of mouth can have a negative impact on your business.

Question: What else can I do to advertise?

Answer: If you do not have a lot of money to spend, you may want to advertise your business as inexpensively as possible. You can do this by designing, printing, and passing out flyers and business cards by hand.

Mailings can be inexpensive to a point but it can get expensive, depending on what and how much you mail out to your market area.

Question: If I have the money, what would be my best advertising options?

Answer: It depends on how much money you are talking about. Some companies spend millions of dollars a year advertising their products and services.

If you don't have that big of an advertising budget, you may want to buy advertising space in a local newspaper or other local publication.

You can advertise on television and radio, in newspapers and magazines, on billboards, on the internet, and in other forms of media.
