Men and Jewelry

Things have changed so move over girls, diamonds are now "a man's best friend."

The phrase "diamonds are a girl's best friend" was once used extensively by jewelers who advertised their diamonds, emeralds, pearls, and other jewelry exclusively to women.

Women were singled out because they were the ones who wore most of the diamonds and other gemstones. Jewelers knew that women wanted jewelry because it makes them feel good when they dressed, whether it is for success in the business world, for a night out on the town, or for everyday wear.

If you haven't noticed, things have changed, so move over women. Diamonds have become "man's best friend," too, and now the jewelry industry is catering to men as well as women. Men are wearing jewelry such as diamonds, gold, silver, and other gemstones and precious metals that not too many years ago would not have been acceptable for the average macho man.

The big change started with men wearing gold chains and bracelets, then it went to gold and diamond studded earrings, and now, jewelry is fair game for both men and women. Men are no longer hung up on the notion that jewelry is exclusively for women. They are buying it for themselves and not apologizing for wearing it with pride.

Today, it is actually considered chic for a man to be seen wearing fine jewelry. Gold chains, diamond studded earrings, and bracelets are hot commodities for men. And women are buying their husbands and boyfriends jewelry that they wouldn't mind wearing themselves and in some instances, guys and girls actually share their jewelry.

In certain circles, it is called "bling." Bling is worn as a fashion statement and men are wearing it with pride. You see it everywhere. Athletes, rock stars, actors, doctors, lawyers, and businessmen, are adding jewelry to their wardrobes.

Young, middle aged, and older men are buying jewelry at a phenomenal rate. Some mothers are even having their son's ears pierced and studded with gold and diamond earrings as soon as they are old enough to have it done.

Jewelry that is most worn by men:

  • Wedding bands
  • Diamond rings
  • Birthstones
  • Watches
  • Gold chains
  • Gold and diamond bracelets
  • Gold and diamond studded ear rings
  • Body pierce gemstones

Gold, silver, platinum are the metals of choice for most men. Diamonds are the gemstones that most men wear, but birthstones, regardless of the color, are rapidly becoming more popular.

With so many men buying and wearing jewelry today, it is driving up the price of diamonds, gold, and other precious metals and gemstones. It has opened a whole new market for precious metals and gemstones and the jewelry industry is loving it.
