Question: Are all diamonds crystal clear?

Answer: Diamonds are found in several colors from crystal clear to light yellow, brown, blue, green, pink, purple, and red. They can also be found in gray and black.

There are several famous colored diamonds such as the Dresden, known for it's green color, the Tiffany with it's yellow complexion, and the Hope, with it's blue hue.

Other famous colored diamonds include the pear shaped black Amsterdam, the Euginie Blue, and the Smithsonian pink.

Question: What causes the different color variations in diamonds?

Answer: Diamonds become tinted when they come in contact with other substances below the earths surface, such as graphite, which turns the diamond crystals black or gray in color.

With the inclusion of manganese, diamonds are given a pink or light red color. Iron can cause a diamond to become brown or canary yellow and baron can give a diamond a blue tint.

Electron and neutron bombardment can also cause a diamond to change in color giving it light blue or light green color.

Diamonds range from opaque to translucent to total transparency.

Answer: Brightly colored diamonds, called fancy diamonds, are a very rare commodity and depending on the size, they can be more costly than the clearest of clear, colorless, diamonds.

Answer: Since fancy colored diamonds are rare and hard to find, most are bought by investment groups and individual collectors and dealers who have the money to buy them and to have them heavily insured.

You may find the rarest of fancy diamonds on display at museums, jewelry conventions, at some well known jewelry stores, and at other venues.

Answer: On any given day, someone who owns a rare gemstone or some other expensive piece of jewelry may decide to take it out and wear it on a special occasion or just for the fun of it.

But when they do wear those items, they don't broadcast it to the world because of insurance and safety reasons.

Women love wearing colored diamonds or other colored stones such as rubies, sapphires, and emeralds that go with the evening gown or other clothing that they are wearing, especially if the colors match and the gemstones bring out her inner beauty.
