International Day of Happiness

On March 20th of each year, people around the world celebrate whatever makes them happy, not just in terms of economic success, but in recognition of all the things that gives them joy and a sense of well being.

On June 28, 2012, during the 118th plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, the International Day of Happiness was established to highlight the importance of the pursuit of happiness for all citizens of every nation. The resolution implies that it should be a matter of public policy to help make happiness a reality as much as humanly possible.

Although the International Day of Happiness was established by the United Nations General Assembly, it is up to individuals to recognize ways in which they can make themselves and those around them happy.

In many cases, it is the small things that bring smiles and warm feelings to people. Visiting a neighbor, calling a friend, making a special dinner, or simply telling someone that you love them are ways that you can celebrate International Day of Happiness.

Below is the United Nations General Assembly's resolution proclaiming March 20 as the International Day of Happiness.
