June

The Sixth Month of the Year

The month of June, named after the Roman goddess Juno, the wife of Jupiter, is the sixth month of the year in the Gregorian and Julian calendars. Juno was known as the patron of marriage and was responsible for the wellbeing of women.

More couples get married in June than any other month of the year, hense the term "June Bride." According to one old wives' tale, "Marry in the month of May, and you'll surely rue the day. Marry when June roses grow, over land and sea you'll go." Many people think that getting married in June will bring good luck, stability, happiness, and longevity in a marriage.

In the Northern Hemisphere, June has the longest daylight hours of any month. In the Southern Hemisphere, June has the shortest daylight hours because of the reversal of the seasons. In the Northern Hemisphere, June is the last month of Spring and the beginning of Summer whereas in the Southern Hemishphere, June is the last month of Autumn and the beginning of Winter.
