April

The fourth month of the year.

April, the fourth month in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and one of the four months with 30 days, was originally the second month of a ten month year before January and February were added giving the year twelve months.

Called Aprilis by the Romans, it is thought to have come from either one of two possible meanings, the first from the term "to open" and the second from the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite.

In the northern hemisphere, April is associated with Spring, the warming of the weather and the planting season, while in the southern hemisphere, it is associated with Autumn, the cooling of the weather and the time for harvesting crops.

April is the time for birth and renewal:

  • Flowers and trees start to blossom and bloom.
  • Birds build nests and lay eggs.
  • Bees, butterflies, and other insects take flight.
  • Animals awaken from hibernation and have babies.
  • People participate warm weather sports and other activities.

  • Diamond: In ancient Greece, diamonds were called adamas which meant invincible or unconquerable because they were the hardest of all known substances at that time. White or clear diamonds symbolize innocence along with pure and unbreakable love.

  • The Sweet Pea: For the month of April, Sweet Pea symbolizes blissful pleasure or it can simply mean good bye.

  • The Daisy: The daisy symbolizes purity and innocence
