My Fashion Statement

I admit that I've got a bit of Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw in me, as I am a lover of shoes. I love clothes too, but shoes are my thing. Not everyone can be Carrie Bradshaw, and of course not everyone wants to be, but I do my best to be a stylish and “in the know” woman about town. I love to dress up but I am more conservative in my color choices than is Carrie Bradshaw.

The social agenda for this past Friday night was a wine and cheese party and I chose a chic and classy look. I went with a pair of soft black trousers, a sexy navy camisole, and a pair of dressy, black, sling back pumps. I took along a dressy wrap in case it got chilly later in the evening.

Next came the accessories, which included a pair of silver hoop earrings, a silver bracelet, and a touch of my favorite fragrance.

I make a fashion statement by doing ordinary and everyday wear as differently as I can. I like subtlety with a dash of sophistication and charm. For example I like to sport a brightly colored scarf to complete an ensemble, such as red, or electric blue and speaking of red, I love the boldness of the color and am not afraid to wear a pair of red shoes or to complete an outfit with a red purse.

It takes guts and panache to wear a hat, and I have both! Instant sex appeal and a hat go together. I always stick with classic shapes such as the fedora or the beret. Of course living in a place where there is plenty of cold weather, a hat is a staple in the winter months.

Sunglasses are an accessory no woman should be without, and I am no exception. Eyes hidden behind a pair of shades is both alluring as well as incredibly mysterious. With all the talk of the damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays, sunglasses are a must every season of the year.

Soft, touchable, fabrics such as leather, cashmere, linen, silk and soft suede are my thing. A fabric that feels good against the skin makes me feel pampered and well cared for. I also like the versatility of rayon cotton blends.

For that extra little bit of pizzazz to add to an outfit, think accessories, and in particular think metallic. Gold, silver, copper and pewter are very versatile and look great against the skin.

The key is not to go overboard and wear too many pieces of any type of jewelry. Silver jewelry suits me better than gold, and pewter, especially a pewter bracelet, looks particularly good when my skin is tanned.
