Dress for success Styles and fashions are a large part of the business world. The way you dress and your appearance may have a bigger impact on your success than you may think, so you should always dress for success. Your business dress should be one of professionalism and high standards because many people look at the way you are dressed to determine if they want to do business with you. Remember, the first impression is a lasting impression. The first impression may be the determining factor in whether you get the business or not. Dressing for success doesn't just mean what you are wearing, but it also means how you are wearing it. What you wear, how you style your hair, the perfume you wear, the make and model of the car you drive, whether you brush your teeth or not, all play a role in business success. It's imperative to be as neat and as clean as possible, especially if your business requires you to interact with people, whether in an office setting, store, or if you have to go into a customer's home. In a business setting, a man should wear a suit or slacks with a nice shirt and tie, his shoes should be polished, and he should wear a nice watch. A man's hair should be groomed and if he wears a mustache and or beard, they should be trimmed and neat. A woman should wear a nice outfit, either a pantsuit or a dress suit, with matching shoes and a stylish purse. Her makeup should be impeccable. Her lipstick, lip liner, and eye liner should be in place and if she wears nail polish, it should not be cracked or peeling and her hair should always be styled. Jewelry adds a nice personal touch but too much jewelry takes away from the professional look, as does too much makeup. If you wear perfumes or colognes, use those that have subtle fragrances because some perfumes and colognes have strong scents and can be overbearing. If your business is one that makes it improbable to wear a suit and tie and being clean all day is not an option, work uniforms can be just as appealing. Always keep a set of clean clothes with you anyway because you never know when you may have to sit down with a customer in his or her home. Dressing for success does not mean that you have to break the bank trying to impress your customers. Try to keep your clothing allowance within your budget because clothes can get expensive. Personal hygiene is a must. Soap, deodorant, tooth paste and a tooth brush, a comb and a hair brush, are all a part of dressing for success. ********** |
