Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton, or LV for short, is one of the most respected fashion and leather design companies in the world. It is internationally renown for its luxurious and high quality lines of clothing and accessories.

The company was started in 1854 by Louis Vuitton Malletier in Paris, France and, over the years, has produced some of the most desired fashion wear and accessories in the world, especially the brand named Louis Vuitton handbags with the LV design. Louis Vuitton handbags are coveted by women everywhere for their luxurious style and the Louis Vuitton brand name appeal.

As one of the oldest fashion houses in the world, Louis Vuitton has created an aura about itself that transcends the world of fashion design like no other company, from it's longevity as a fashion house, to it's current status as one of today's most glamorous branded names.

Louis Vuitton was born in August 1821 at Jura, France and moved to Paris in 1835. In Paris, he worked in the homes of wealthy aristocrats and was appointed Layetier to the wife of Napoleon III. In his position of importance in the royal household, he met and cultivated a clientele that would serve him well when he opened his own boutique, Malletier.

Vuitton opened Malletier a paris in 1854. With his knowledge of what the aristocracy liked in travel gear, Vuitton set forth in making luggage of his own design and introduced flat bottomed trunks that were lightweight and easy to stack when traveling. Vuitton became very successful as a luggage and travel bag manufacturer and in 1885, open his first store in London.

Upon the death of Louis Vuitton in 1892, his son Georges inherited control of the company and immediately set plans to make Louis Vuitton a worldwide Corporation.

In 1896, Georges toured the United States, making stops in New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia. By 1914, Georges had opened stores around the world, in New York, Washington, Buenos Aires, Bombay, and London. With the death of Georges, his son Gaston-Louis Vuitton took control of the company.

The LV brand continued to flourish as Gaston-Louis began using leather for everything from the manufacture of luggage, hand bags, wallets, clothing, and fashionable accessories.

In 1978, Louis Vuitton opened stores in Osaka and Tokyo, Japan and continued to expanded around the world.

Stores were opened in Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul, Korea in 1984. 1985 saw the introduction of the Epi leather line.

In 1987, LVMH, Moet et Chandon and Hennessy, merged with Louis Vuitton to form a conglomerate of luxury products. Moet et Chandon and Hennessy are manufacturers of brandy and champagne.

The 1990s saw the expansion of the Louis Vuitton brand. With more than 130 stores worldwide, the company set forth to expand on it's already popular lines of clothing and accessories by introducing it's Taiga Leather line.

In 1998, Marc Jacobs became Art Director of Louis Vuitton. Today, Jacobs is a force in the fashion industry with his own well received brand name, "Marc Jacobs." Jacobs created the first line of Jewelry under the Louis Vuitton label called the charms bracelet.

In the year of 2002, Louis Vuitton launched the Tambour watch collection and in 2003, launched the Monogram Multicolore canvas range of handbags and accessories that included monograms in 33 different colors on either black or white backgrounds of the standard Monogram Canvas.

In 2004, Louis Vuitton celebrated it's 150th anniversary. The company opened new stores in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Shanghai, China, and a new store in New York City.

Louis Vuitton, on what is said to be the largest Louis Vuitton in the world, reopened it's Champs-Elysses store in Paris in 2005.

In 2007, Louis Vuitton, breaking from it's tradition of employing models and celebrities to advertise their products, announced that Mikhail Gorbachev, former leader of the USSR, would appear in an ad campaign along with Andre Agassi, Catherine Deneuve, and Steffi Graf.

For more than 150 year, Louis Vuitton has manufactured products that are loved and respected around the world as top of the line luxury goods. It's fashionable leather wear, pret-a-porter clothing line, jewelry, and travel bags, handbags, and fashion accessories are produced with quality and uses the eponymous LV initials.
