Carolina Herrera

Fashion designer Carolina Herrera was born Maria Carolina Josefina Pacanins y Nino in Caracas, Venezuela in January 1939. With her grandmother, Carolina traveled to Europe on a regular basis. At the early age of 13, she attended her first couture show with her grandmother.

Herrera appeared for many years on the U.S. list of best-dressed women. After deciding to start her own fashion line, her designs rapidly became popular because of the beautiful colors and subtle, but classy styles.

In 1981, she launched her first ready-to-wear collection and in 1984, she introduced her first fur collection. In 1986, she launched her CH Collection, which, because of it's affordability, is more geared towards younger consumers.

She became well known for her elegant evening wear and for the creation of a successful line of accessories and leather wear.

Herrera launched her Carolina Herrera Bridal Collection in 1987 and her perfume line in 1988. She designed a wedding dress for Caroline Kennedy and worked on Jacqueline Kennedy's wardrobe over the last few years of her life.

She then turned her attention to developing fragrances, 212 and 212 Men, which debuted in 1997 and 1999 respectively.

In 2000, Herrera opened a boutique on Madison Ave and in 2003, she successfully launched her Autumn/Winter Ready-To-Wear collection, receiving rave review at the New York Fashion week.

Actresses Selma Hayek and Renee Zellweger wore elegant evening gowns designed by Herrera on Oscar night in 2003. She also designed Zellweger's wedding dress when she married country music artist Kenny Chesney.

Herrera launched her new fragrance 212 Sexy in 2004 , a fragrance that maintained the the essence of the original 212, the 212 Sexy Men debuted in 2006.

The Carolina Herrera Fall Collection, her new fragrances, Chic and CHNY for women and men are available in stores for the 2008 season.

Carolina Herrera has maintained an acute sense of style over the years and her reputation has grown steadily since she jumped into the fashion business.

Today, she is regarded as one of the true fashion experts and her company's lines of fashion wear, evening gowns, leather and suede jackets and coats, perfumes, and accessories are reaching new heights with every passing year.
