Read And Relax

"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."
~by John Mackey~

Almost everyone go through periods of anxiety, when they just need to get away from day to day pressures, and find something to keep their minds off stressful work related situations, personal and family issues, and the ever unfolding events around the world that seems to wreak havoc on our physical and mental well being.

Life is exhausting, filled with turmoil and stress, and even more than we care to admit, it takes a toll on our health. Sometimes we need to take a break and relax, even if it is just for an hour or two each day, and get away all the hustle and bustle of life.

Vacations are great, but how often do we really take them, and when we do, are they really periods of total relaxation? Probably not. Most people use their vacation days to take care of personal or family business, which keeps them running for the whole week, or two, of vacation. By the time their vacation is over, they need another vacation to recuperate from the vacation they just took.

Your doctor will tell you that a period of relaxation is essential to good mental and physical health. Doctors also recommend activities that keep your mind off work and other stressful events that consume your life, but most people work to live and live to work, and, for many of us, finding the time to relax is just not that simple.

As a society, we are not taught to relax. From the time we are old enough to go to daycare, we are put on a schedule, and from then on, we live our lives by watches and calendars, and although it is our intentions to take the time to relax, we really don't know how. We can't stop ourselves from stressing over our lives, our jobs, everyday work related tasks, family dramas, or from thinking about money, debt, and other stressful issues.

One of the best ways to remove yourself from day to day stress is by indulging in a good book. Reading is excellent therapy. It keeps the mind occupied, and the body relatively motionless and relaxed, and it takes the reader on a quiet journey to another time and place.

Reading a good book puts you in the hands of the author, and like a pilot of an airplane or the captain of a cruise ship, you can sit back and relax, and enjoy the ride. It can take you out of the realities of the world and into another dimension.

It is a good idea to pick out a good book, one that suits your own personal tastes, and get in the habit of reading for relaxation. If it is a good book, you will enjoy it, and you will find that reading is a truly wonderful, exhilarating, experience.
