Do You Read?

"The time to read is any time: no apparatus, no appointment of time and place, is necessary.  It is the only art which can be practiced at any hour of the day or night, whenever the time and inclination comes, that is your time for reading; in joy or sorrow, health or illness" by Holbrook Jackson.

Do you read? Have you picked up a book lately, just to thumb through it to see if it would capture your imagination? Did it pique your interest enough to make you wonder what message the author was trying to convey?

Reading is much more than just picking up a newspaper, magazine, or book. It is an invigorating experience that opens many doors to many places. Reading is way to look at the world through the eyes of many. It highlights the ever changing way in which we live and presents a fascinating way to examine the past for benefits that can be used today. It is a conduit to the future by way of mental stimulation and intelligent exploration.

The question should not be, "Do you read?". Instead, it should be "What do you read?". Today, the amount of readable material is phenomenal, not just in books and magazines, newspapers and other publications, but what has emerged as a readers paradise is the internet.

The internet has concentrated so much readable material within it's ever expanding knowledge base that it is virtually impossible for any one person to read it all. If it is written, you will probably be able to read it on the internet in one form or another, and if it is not there, it will probably be there soon.

Thousands of books are published every year. There is a constant array of self help books, personal and family oriented books and publications, business and finance books, science and historical book and publications and the list goes on and on.

Biblical and other religious writings have always been in the mainstream of everyday reading patterns and provide much needed boosts of inspiration and prayerful thought. The Holy Bible is said to be the most widely read book in history and continues to grow in popularity.

In schools across the country, teachers are promoting reading by encouraging children to read comic books, poetry, short stories, and other materials that help stimulate the imagination. Text books are great for learning, but children need a wide variety of other sources of information and learning materials. They too, should be encouraged to read at all times.

Magazine and newspaper racks are always full of daily news, weekly and monthly periodicals, and other pamphlets, trade and handbooks. There is a never ending, ever growing thirst for news, medical and scientific information, and the world has become a better place for them.

Today, more than any time in history, the need and stay abreast of local, national, and world events has become imperative in the way we live our lives. Reading helps to educate us on personal and medical issues, open the doors to financial health, and makes it easy to gleen information that is important to our daily lives.
