I Am Blessed Because the Lord Guides My Way
The Lord Divines My Steps
An excerpt from Points Of Power
Every morning we wake up to endless possibilities. We have choices to make. We can begin with hope, anticipation, and optimism, or we can begin with despair, despondency, and pessimism.
Living with confidence in the Lord, we have the ability and blessing to claim every hour to its fullest and pursue every dream to its heights. Life has its ups and downs. There are days when I feel inspired and other days when I want to just throw I the towel. I sing about that in my song "Day by Day." Every day, good or not so good, I call on God for strength. I reach out to the Lord in prayer and meditation and ask to feel the Holy Spirit's presence as I go about my day. I place my trust in god and know that I can go with confidence and show the world that I am a child of God in all I say and do.
Terms like "impossible" and "too difficult" burden our vocabulary when the truth is that God is constantly and carefully guiding our way. Life is a process. Once you decide you want God to lead you in your life, when you come up against the hard stuff, you call on the Lord, ask for help and guidance, and then keep working. It doesn't happen overnight--your don't just fly off into God's glory like some kind of superhero. You put one foot in front of the other and take it, as the song says, day by day.
Learn to trust in Him, and you will live a life that has been beautifully tailored to fit you perfectly. Never forget how wonderful and beautiful each day is. Choose to love yourself! Choose to forget the past but, most importantly, choose to have confidence in God!
The New Testament is filled with stories of doubt dissolved by faith. Countless times God shows His strength, mercy, and dominion through the actions of His Son, Jesus Christ, assuring the doubting multitudes of His true identity. But I think one of the greatest instances of such assurance is found in the few small steps Peter took on the water.
After the feeding of the five thousand, Jesus sent His disciples back to the boat to cross the Sea of Galilee. The crowd dispersed and He went up on the mountain to pray. He needed time alone to contemplate and talk with the Father. By the time He came down from the mountain, it was already night and darkness had fallen over the water. With the weight of the wind, the boat carrying the group was already a great distance from land. Instead of calling the disciples back, Jesus simply walked out to them, His steps as sure on the liquid water as they were on the solid land.
While the disciples had seen Jesus perform miracles countless times, they were still in awe of the figure approaching them. They assumed it was a ghost and they were terrified. But Jesus assured them of His presence: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid" (Matthew 14:27 NIV).
"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water" (14:28 NIV).
Jesus called Peter to Him. With his eyes fixed on the Lord, Peter miraculously stepped out onto the water and began walking to Jesus. But within a few steps, Peter got distracted by the wind and the waves raging around him; he took his eyes off Jesus and his confidence weakened. He began to sink and cried out for help. Jesus reached out immediately and caught him, asking the eternal question asked of all believers: "You of little faith, why did you doubt"? (Matthew 14:31 NIV). Together they got back into the boat. The water and wind around them subsided.
